Booty Bandits
Booty Bandits is a 2.5D side scrolling Brawler stylized after an outlined, cell-shaded cartoon look and a parallax background. It follows the story of Captain Goldwater and his crew; Wrecklin, Gape-Tooth Gabe, Pegs, and Slash and Bash. They search the seas trying to retrieve their stolen booty and captured wenches.
The game follows though 5 levels, each broken up into several separate stages. Players will be able to play solo or multiplayer, punching and attacking with a variety of weapons through places like Tortuga, Lost Tiki Isles, and even Volcanic Caverns. Enemies abound and bosses are fierce.
I joined the project as a 3D modeler in Fall of 2013 and lead a team of eight designers, programmers, and artists in making the fifth stage in the Tortuga level. I designed most of the structures in the level and a variety of the props, as well as assisted with revising additional assets and placement of the finished models into the level. Textures were all made by our teams talented texture artist, from whom I learned a significant amount about game art and the cartoon style. I was able to replicate this style for the textures for additional assets.
All environmental assets were created in Maya or 3DS Max, and the level was built inside of Unity. The game is at a playable state as of now, with Captain Goldwater fully modeled and textured pitted against several enemies, Including one boss. Current estimated completion date of Booty Bandits is Spring 2016. Current future plans will replace the 3D models of characters with 2D sprites to expedite the process and allow for more detailed animations. More assets need to be made, as well as revision of the existing level to extend gameplay.
